DVD Aldermaston Pottery

Alan Caiger-Smith finally closed the Aldermaston Pottery at the end of December 2006. Many of the best pots in the final display came from the splendid last two firings in the large wood kiln at the end of November, one a glaze firing and one for lustre. Both firings were profesionally filmed by Tony Booth and have been recorded on DVD, with running time of about 80 minutes each. They show the packing of the kiln, the actual firing, and the completed pots being taken out the kiln, together with explanatory comments arising during the course of the action.
The kiln itself is unusual and so is the wood-firing of tin glaze pottery. The detailed record of the lustre firing is probably unique.

Beaucoup des meilleurs pots dans l'exposition de clôture provenaient de ces deux splendides dernières cuissons effectuées dans le grand four à bois à la fin de novembre. Les deux cuissons celle d'émail stannifère et celle de lustre ont été filmées par le réalisateur Tony Booth et enregistrées sur ce DVD. Alan Caiger-Smith commente l'enfournement, la cuisson et le défournement en insistant sur des points spécifiques importants qu'il a pu vérifier au cours de ces cinquante années d'expériences.
Le four conçu par Alan Caiger-Smith est de construction particulière de même que la cuisson d'émail stannifère. Ce document montrant la cuisson de lustre en détail est probablement unique.
